Collaboration Form - Weekly Film NIght

Collaboration Form - M&S

OUGD301 End of Module Evaluation

Looking back at the briefs I written and the work I produced, I believe I have answered and followed up on my statement of intent that I put together at the start of the module. There were some areas that I wish I could have pursued like introducing screen-print to my work but that had to be changed purely because of the quantity of work that required it and the process of doing it was not worth it and could be equally be achieved digitally. I do however still plan to use that technique for a brief in my FMP.

I spent a lot of time over the summer coming up with briefs for me to do that would create work I wanted to do and also work I wanted to have in my portfolio. At some points I found it difficult pinning down exactly what I wanted to gain from the briefs but also narrowing down the final outcome of them so they would be something that I was completely happy with and that it answered my statement of intent. One useful thing I used to help me write and come up with briefs was taking time to look at the work of illustrators and artists I admire and see the type of work they are producing. This gave me a lot of inspiration and ideas for subjects of briefs and also final outcomes that I could produce.

The briefs I written were chosen because they allowed me to get away from screen based resolutions and produce work that would be seen and used on physical products. That was one of my biggest points I wanted to make at the start of the module, to see and apply my practice on products that can be handled and interacted with. Brief 2 Pixar Playing Cards was the brief that put that statement into action the most. It was written because it had a final resolution that I haven't done before and is something that was developed from many other ideas for resolutions. Out of all the briefs it was my most enjoyable to do because it used a theme and subject that I have a big fondness for and was a good opportunity to apply my design practice and style of illustration I do. I believe I kept up a good way of working and used my time effectively during the module but leaving the competition brief 4 weeks to the end of the deadline wasn't something I really wanted or planned to do so I decided to collaborate on it to balance out my time well and ease the stress a little.

Reviewing everything I have done for this module I wouldn't really say there was much I would have changed or regretted I had done. I managed my time well working on all of my briefs and making sure I put an equal amount of effort into each. But as I said the only thing that I would have done differently was to consider the competition brief a little earlier and made sure I fitted that in between everything else. My strengths with these briefs definitely showed through my illustration and image work and the attention to detail I put within each brief. That was the main focus of all of my briefs, making sure I was completely happy with the imagery and that they all worked in context. I wouldn't say there were many weaknesses throughout this brief as I managed my time to the standard I was comfortable with. The one thing I would say but wouldn't call it as weakness was not experimenting and introducing screen-print to my work. This is something I will definitely think about and use for my FMP.
